Arundo Donax, also known as Giant Reed, Provence Cane, or Bamboo of Provence, is a tall perennial plant native to the Mediterranean and other subtropical regions. Arundo Donax is a large plant, capable of reaching several meters in height. It is renowned for its rapid growth, making it a popular choice for certain types of landscaping.
The stems of Arundo Donax have diverse uses, ranging from ornamental and landscaping purposes to industrial and energy applications. EDENGY cultivates Arundo Donax for its biomass yield, as the dry matter output can reach up to 35 tons per hectare. We utilize the biomass derived from Arundo Donax to produce commercial biochar as well as biochar for internal use, serving as a natural fertilizer.
Finally, Arundo Donax acts as a carbon sink, capturing significant amounts of atmospheric CO2. Its transformation into biochar, used as fertilizer in our cassava plantations, enables the long-term sequestration of large quantities of carbon in the soil, contributing to climate change mitigation and the regeneration of marginal soils.
Biomass Production:
Arundo Donax is a fast-growing plant capable of producing a significant amount of biomass (up to 35 tons per hectare). This makes it an excellent option for biomass production for energy or industrial purposes.
Erosion Control:
Thanks to its deep root system and rapid growth, Arundo Donax can be used to stabilize soils and prevent erosion along riverbanks.
Building Material:
In certain regions, the stems of Arundo Donax have been used to create construction materials such as roofs, walls, and fences.
Landscaping:
Due to its size and rapid growth, Arundo Donax is sometimes employed for ornamental purposes in gardens and landscape designs.
